Record Setting Moosehead Togue, With pictures
Mar 16th, 2009 by Luke

Moosehead Lake – Bill Maynard, Jr of Maynard’s in Maine, Rockwood, ME  caught a 41 inch 29.67 pound lake trout while ice fishing Moosehead Lake on March 10th. The fish weighed 31 pounds on Rockwood’s uncertified scales, so he took it to Indian Hill Trading Post in Greenville where it maxed out their certified scale at 30 pounds. He proceeded to take it to a third weigh station but they also could not go over 30 pounds. After over 8 hours he finally got it to Inland Fish and Wildlife where their certified scale showed 29.67 pounds. One can only wonder how much was lost due to evaporation.

The old Moosehead Lake record was  28.75 pounds caught in 1961.

The Maine state record is 31.5 caught from Beech Hill Pond in 1958

Nice catch Bill!
